5 things you need to know about the Mercedes A-Class
The key features of the Mercedes A-Class that you'll find useful.
The A-Class is one of Mercedes-Benz’s most popular models and month after month appears on the list of most-registered models. It’s not hard to see why, either, given the level of quality and finish that the A-Class brings.
It’s got a lot to offer, so if you’re considering one, these are the key things you need to know about it.
You’ve got saloon and hatchback versions to choose from
To many people, the A-Class is a hatchback. However, Mercedes recently bolstered the A-Class range with a new saloon that brings slightly more dynamic looks. It’s still great to drive, too, but just brings a slightly new flavour on the classic five-door.
You get all the same range of engines and specifications, too.
A new plug-in hybrid brings added efficiency
As well as the conventional petrol and diesel powertrains, there’s a new plug-in hybrid setup available with the A-Class. It combines a turbocharged petrol engine with a small motor and batteries for added efficiency as well as the ability to travel for up to 44 miles on electric power alone.
For those looking to drive down their fuel bills, it could be a great option.
AMG versions are available
Go-faster versions of the A-Class are hugely popular thanks to their supercar-beating performance and over-the-top looks. Both the AMG A35 and A45 use the same 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, but the latter brings more power and quicker acceleration.
However, both use Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive system to ensure that they can deliver all of that power to the road regardless of the conditions.
There are loads of specifications to choose from
When it comes to trim levels, the A-Class offers a huge amount. There are seven individual specifications to choose from, in fact, ensuring that there’s something for everyone - and every budget, too.
Whichever version you opt for, you get loads of equipment. Even entry-level SE cars boast 16-inch alloy wheels, Mercedes’ MBUX system and a 180-degree parking camera.
It’s full of features
The A-Class was one of the first cars to debut Mercedes’ new infotainment system with its ultra-widescreen setup. It’s a great system to use, with clear controls and an easy-to-navigate layout.
Plus, certain models utilise an augmented reality satellite navigation system that will lay the directions you need to follow over a real-time video of the area ahead of you.
