Key Things to Know About the Audi A3
Discover the key features you should know about the Audi A3.
As one of Audi’s most successful models, the A3 is a car that is well-known across the UK. In fact, it regularly tops the monthly list of best-selling cars, which goes to show that this compact hatchback continues to be popular despite the rise of the crossover.
Audi recently introduced a new A3, too, bringing with it a whole new take on the classic hatchback recipe. Let’s see what else you need to know about it.
It’s sitting on a new platform
The A3 is underpinned by a new platform and it’s the same one you’ll find being used on the latest Volkswagen Golf and Seat Leon, too. It affords the car more space than before while also allowing for electrification - something we’ll look at shortly.
As with previous models, the new A3 aims to bring a premium driving experience - and this latest platform helps with that.
There’s a wider range of engines than ever
You’ve got plenty of choices when it comes to engines on the new A3. There are 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol variants that major on efficiency, as well as sportier 1.5-litre petrol which bring a little more zip.
A 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel unit will no doubt find favour with longer distance drivers, while the options of manual or automatic gearboxes should ensure there’s something for everyone. You can get Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive on certain models, too.
A plug-in hybrid brings added efficiency
As we already mentioned, the A3’s platform has been designed to accommodate electrified powertrains, which is why a plug-in hybrid version is already available. It combines a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and batteries, resulting in a claimed fuel economy of 235.4mpg and CO2 emissions of just 29g/km.
If you’re looking for the cleanest possible A3, then the hybrid makes a solid case for itself.
An S3 version boosts performance
If you’re after a go-faster version of the A3, then look no further than the punchy S3. It’s powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine with 306bhp capable of driving the S3 from 0-60mph in just 4.6 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 155mph.
Despite that performance, Audi claims that it’ll return up to 36mpg, too.
There’s loads of on-board technology
As you’d expect from a modern Audi, the A3 is crammed with all of the latest features. You’ve got a large central infotainment system running Audi’s latest MMI software and this is backed by a Virtual Cockpit which takes the place of the conventional dials.
There’s also a suite of assistance system which can help to keep both driver and occupants safe in the event of an emergency.
