Key Things to Know About the Audi A6
Five things you need to know about the Audi A6.
The Audi A6 has been one of the go-to models in the premium class for many years now. Offering space and refinement, it’s a car that’ll do pretty much everything. The latest model has brought more technology to the table, but it has still retained those time-honoured features that keep people coming back time and time again. Let’s see what else it has to offer.
There’s a saloon and estate available
People often think of the A6 as a saloon first and foremost, but there’s also an estate version available for those who need a little more practicality. Both offer plenty of space, mind you, with lots of legroom and headroom available in either model.
In fact, the A6 estate - or Avant, as Audi calls it - offers up a very respectable 530 litres of boot space.
You can get a hybrid powertrain
For those after low running costs, then the A6 TFSI e plug-in hybrid could fit the bill. It uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which is then combined with an electric motor and batteries. Audi says that you should be able to get up to 42 miles of electric-only range, while fuel consumption stands at up to 235mpg with the batteries fully charged.
When it comes to charging, Audi says that the A6 hybrid can be fully topped up in two and a half hours when using a 7.2kW home charger.
Petrol and diesel engines are still available
Of course, the A6 still brings a wide variety of more conventional powertrains. That said, many are now utilising mild-hybrid technology in order to boost efficiency and add some extra punch to the A6’s performance.
Long-distance drivers will no doubt appreciate the inclusion of refined diesel engines, too.
A range-topping RS6 brings huge performance
If you’re after an A6 model that’ll scare supercars, then you’ll need the RS6. Hugely powerful, it utilises a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine to deliver truly hair-raising performance.
It’s only available in estate form, mind you, but this does mean that you get a great blend of huge acceleration and practicality, too.
The interior boasts plenty of tech
The A6 was one of Audi’s first models to reveal a new-look interior, utilising a variety of screens to give it a hugely impressive appearance. There’s a single screen higher up the dash for media and satellite navigation, while a secondary one underneath controls your heating and ventilation.
The A6 also benefits from Audi’s Virtual Cockpit setup, which replaces the conventional dials for a customisable display.
