Key Things to Know About the Mercedes B-Class
Five features you need to know about the Mercedes B-Class.
The Mercedes-Benz B-Class is a car that offers a lot in a relatively compact package. It’s spacious and practical, but brings all of the high-end features that you’d expect from a car with the three-pronged star on the front.
A great fit for families, the B-Class is the Swiss Army Knife of the Mercedes-Benz line-up. Let’s see what else it has to offer.
It’s practical and spacious
As we’ve already mentioned, the B-Class is a car that focuses on practicality. As an MPV, it’s been designed with families in mind and it’s why you’ll find a large boot and spacious cabin on offer.
The boot lip is quite low, too, while the boot door itself opens high to reveal a large, square loading area. If you’re often putting heavier or bulkier items in there, it’ll be a welcome feature.
A plug-in hybrid variant is available
Fancy rock-bottom fuel bills from your B-Class? That’s where the plug-in hybrid version comes in. Thanks to a large battery, it’s capable of driving for up to 44 miles on electric-only power. It means that if you often do shorter trips around town, you’ll barely need to trouble the petrol engine.
In terms of charging time, Mercedes says that a full top up will take between two and three hours, depending on your electricity supply.
It’s got a high-end interior
As you’d expect from a Mercedes-Benz, there’s a great sense of attention to detail in the B-Class. It utilises the firm’s MBUX operating software and combines a pair of screens - one in front of the driver and a second in the middle of the dash - which sit under a single sheet of glass to create the impression of one ultra-wide display. It’s truly impressive.
You’ve also got stylish turbine-style air vents and a variety of high-gloss finishers which help to give the B-Class a premium feel.
There are plenty of specifications to choose from
You’ve got five specifications to choose from with the B-Class, ranging from entry-level Sport right up to tip-top AMG Line Premium Plus. However, even Sport models benefit from 17-inch alloy wheels, LED high-performance headlights and two-zone climate control - among other features.
At the top of the range, you’ll find adaptive headlights fitted as well as a panoramic sunroof and electrically adjustable front seats.
Petrol and diesel engines are still available
Of course, as well as the plug-in hybrid you’ve still got an extensive range of petrol and diesel engines available. An efficient 1.3-litre petrol kicks off the range in the B180, while a punchy 2.0-litre diesel in the B220d will no doubt be a hit with those drivers who travel a little further afield.
All cars come with an automatic gearbox, adding to the high-end feel of the car.
