Things You Ought to Know about the Mercedes-Benz GLA
Discover the key features of the Mercedes GLA and why it's such a hit with customers.
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class was a masterstroke, bringing a more affordable entrance to the German firm’s range, quickly becoming a huge sales hit. The same is true of the GLA, which is the smallest SUV in the range.
Despite its relatively diminutive stature, it still gets the brawny SUV looks of the rest of the range and is packed full of technology that makes it mighty appealing.
Here are five things to know if you’re considering buying a Mercedes-Benz GLA.
Perfect size for city life
One of the key benefits of an SUV is the higher driving position, which makes city driving easier because you have better visibility. Being Mercedes’ smallest SUV means that the GLA has a smaller footprint, so you get the benefits of an SUV without it being too big and unwieldy in inner-city traffic.
Despite its smaller footprint, the GLA’s upright design means that it’s still impressively spacious inside.
It’s ideal for families in particular, because the space in the rear is one of the best in its class. It means you can fit a couple of kids in the back and they’ll have loads of space to enjoy the drive. Even taller adults should be pretty comfortable on longer trips, too.
Mercedes has done a fantastic job in recent years of introducing interiors to its entry level models that have the design and technology that’s very similar to those found in its high-end luxury models.
That’s true of the GLA, which gets high quality materials throughout as well as high-definition infotainment screens that are easy to use with tonnes of features.
Plug-in hybrid option
If you’re looking for a greener option, the GLA is available as a plug-in hybrid. It’s ultra-economical and can even drive up to 39 miles on electricity alone, meaning many commutes could be completed without using any fuel.
It’s also particularly appealing to company car drivers thanks to its low benefit-in-kind tax rate of ust 11 per cent.
At the other end of the scale there’s the AMG GLA. This is a high-performance model that boasts 415bhp and can go from 0-60mph in about four seconds, with a top speed of 168mph.
It’s the most expensive option in the range, but as well as the mechanical upgrades, but also comes with extensive equipment to justify its price tag.
