Get to Know: Fiat 500

The Fiat 500, an unmistakable Italian icon. The cute retro styling has been a massive hit since Fiat announced they would be bringing the classic back to life in 2007.

The story began way back in 1957 with the rear-wheel-drive Cinquecento (Italian for five hundred). A little under 3 metres long, this was one of the original ‘city cars’ and it was hugely popular, selling almost 4 million units before they ceased production in 1975!  The first models featured rear hinged ‘suicide doors’ and a 0.5 two-cylinder engine producing just 13bhp and a rather dreary top speed of 53mph.

Thankfully, with the latest generation 500 you get a little more oomph. You can choose from three front-wheel –drive petrol engines. The 1.2 69bhp (top speed of 99mph), the 0.9 Twinair 85bhp (top speed of 107mph) and the 0.9 Twinair 105bhp (top speed of 117mph).

You can customise this little car to your hearts content. Choose from a ton of different wheels, interior options, body stickers, side badges, paint colours and loads of ‘second skins’ to fit your style.

The perfect city car. 3.5 metres long, a 9.3-metre turning circle and a perfectly reasonable 550 litres of boot space with the rear seats folded down.
