The budget convertibles to get your hands on this summer

The budget convertibles to get your hands on this summer

Everyone loves that wind-in-your-hair feeling, don’t they? Convertibles are a big deal here in the UK where, despite the rather changeable weather, they get snapped up thick and fast. Though they can often command quite the premium, there’s no reason why you can’t get that drop-top experience on a budget, too.

That’s why we’ve picked out some of the best convertible options available today which won’t break the bank. Let’s check them out.

Fiat 500 c

The 500 has been a huge hit for Fiat and with its retro styling, dinky proportions and peppy range of engines, it’s easy to see why. There’s also a convertible version that uses a sliding fabric section to open the 500’s classy cabin up to the elements.

The 500 c offers great value for money and represents a relatively budget-friendly entry into convertibles.

DS 3

Much like the Fiat 500, the DS 3 trades on a slightly retro theme. It’s a little larger, mind you, and that means it’s a somewhat more practical option for those who need a bit of extra space.

Plus, there’s a great convertible option. In a similar vein to the Fiat, the DS 3 uses a sliding central section on its roof. It’s simple and easy to operate, too.

Audi A3 Cabriolet

The Audi A3 is a classy and refined hatchback option and it’s one which appeals to countless drivers up and down the country. It’s little surprise, therefore, why Audi chose to expand the A3 range with the introduction of a convertible version.

It’s got a fabric folding roof which can be raised or lowered in no time at all, while still offering the solid build quality and refined looks that you expect from the standard car.

Mercedes-Benz SLK

There are few cars with quite so much of a reputation for excellence in the convertible segment like the SLK. It’s been Merc’s baby soft-top for some time now, bringing with it an excellent driving experience alongside a range of punchy engines.

Plus, it uses a clever metal folding hardtop. This means that when you’ve got the roof in place, you get just as much refinement as you’d expect from a normal coupe.

BMW 4 Series Convertible

The 4 Series is a coupe version of BMW’s ever-popular 3 Series. It’s got the same excellent dynamic and solid interior as the five-door, but with the swoopy, dramatic looks you’d associate with a coupe.

The convertible version brings all of those great attributes along with the ability to raise and lower the roof at a moment’s notice.
