5 Things to Know About the Mercedes C Class
Here are five reasons why Mercedes’ mid-sized saloon and estate models are so popular.
If you’re looking for a mid-sized premium car that’s spacious, upmarket and great to drive, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class should be one of the first names on the list.
Considering buying one? Here are five things you need to know.
It has a fantastic interior
Cars in this segment tend to have quite plain interiors, but the C-Class’s design is anything but. There are quirky shapes, prominent circular vents and clear displays, with high-quality materials used throughout.
Those who enjoy listening to music on their commute will love the Burmester sound system upgrade.
Comfortable to drive
When it comes to driving style, there’s usually a trade off between being more sporty or more comfortable, and the C-Class definitely leans towards the latter. If you’re someone who does a lot of motorway miles it’s the perfect companion.
However, Mercedes hasn’t left the car to fall apart in corners, so if you do find yourself on a winding stretch there’s plenty of fun to be had.
Great range of engines
Whatever your driving style, there’s a powertrain for you. If you do a lot of urban and long distance driving you’ll find a good selection of petrols, while those doing a lot of miles will naturally lean towards the economical diesels.
Meanwhile, those who spend a lot of time in the city or are buying as a company car will be pleased to see there are incredibly frugal plug-in hybrids on offer.
Saloon and estate
Although the SUV has become more popular, for those who don’t need the high driving position an estate will be much more enjoyable to drive and just as practical.
And if you don’t need all that space in the boot for bikes, pets or work equipment, the saloon is a stylish and still-practical option.
High-performance alternative
You know how we said the C-Class leans towards comfort? It doesn’t have to be that way. For keen drivers, there’s a version that’s been worked on by Mercedes’ tuning arm, AMG.
Called the Mercedes-AMG C 63, it has 379bhp from its boisterous V8 engine and has been modified to handle like a race car. It’s quite pricey, but has many of the regular car’s creature comforts but with much more performance on tap.
