5 things you need to know about the Mercedes E Class
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a big, premium saloon capable of whisking its occupants across big distances in plenty of comfort. Throughout its many generations, the E-Class has stood for quality and luxury, while estate versions have added even more practicality too.
Needless to say, there’s a lot to discuss about the E-Class. So let’s check out five key things you need to know about it.
There’s a wide variety of engines to choose from
Petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid - the E-Class offers them all. Of course, the diesels remain the big hitters for the E-Class as they offer the long-distance economy and quiet running that people expect from a car like this.
But, where Mercedes differs from its competitors is through its offering of a diesel plug-in hybrid with the E300de. It’s quiet, refined and impressively efficient so represents a great balance of both worlds.
It’s got a high-tech interior
The E-Class’ interior has always been a high point and that’s no different for the latest version. It’s practically dripping with technology, with a pair of screens combining to provide one seamless-looking display.
Ahead of the driver there are configurable dials, while in the centre you’ll access media and navigation functions.
An estate version brings added practicality
The regular saloon E-Class is a spacious vehicle in itself, but for those after a little extra boot space then the Estate variant will no doubt fit the bill. It’s got an ultra-square load area and this makes it easier when you’re trying to get bulkier items in the back.
In fact, there are 640 litres on offer here with the seats in place or 1,820 when you fold them down. That's more than you’ll get from virtually all its rivals.
There are plenty of specifications
When it comes to trim levels, there’s plenty to choose from with the E-Class. In fact, there are five in total ranging from entry-level Sport right the way up to AMG Line Night Edition Premium Plus.
However, even base-spec cars boast loads of equipment including 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and the full multimedia system.
Performance comes courtesy of AMG
For those after a go-faster E-Class, AMG has you covered. There’s the petrol V6-powered E53, or the full-fat V8 E63S. Both bring huge amounts of performance and driver involvement with the added bonus of all-wheel-drive for better traction in poor conditions.
Plus, you can still have both as estate models should you want.
