Five things you need to know about the BMW X2

Discover the key features of the high-quality BMW X2 in our helpful buyer's guide.
Five things you need to know about the BMW X2
The crossover market is expanding with each passing day and, not wanting to be left out of the action, BMW has entered the fray with its X2. Essentially a high-riding version of the firm’s 1 Series, the X2 brings a slight bump in ride height as well as chunkier exterior proportions.
But what else do you need to know? Let’s take a look.
It’s got striking exterior details
The X2 benefits from a range of styling touches that help to differentiate it from the rest of the BMW range. The BMW roundels on the pillars, for instance, are particularly noticeable design tweaks that do set the X2 apart.
It also gets a part-hatchback part-SUV stance on the road, with its chunky proportions giving it a good amount of presence.
The interior has a high level of fit-and-finish
As you’d expect from a BMW, the X2 has a really strong level of fit-and-finish with high-quality materials used throughout its cabin. The driving position is also excellent - just what you’d like to find in a BMW.
There are plenty of screens and high-definition displays to use and this only helps to elevate the feel of the cabin even further.
There are a variety of engines to choose from
The X2 range is accompanied by a wide variety of powertrain options. Not only are there your conventional petrol and diesel engines, but a new plug-in hybrid setup has also been added to the list.
It uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine linked up to an electric motor and batteries. Plus, because the former sends power to the front wheels and the latter the rears, the X2 hybrid brings added all-wheel-drive traction.
It’s still good to drive
Though some crossovers trade driving involvement for practicality, that’s not the case with the X2. With well-weighted steering and a surprising level of grip, it’s a car that you’ll be able to enjoy driving.
Plus, for added performance, there’s the range-topping X2 M35i version that uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine with 302bhp.
It delivers on the practicality front
Everyone wants some added practicality from their crossover and you definitely get that in the X2. Though the raked roofline does impede boot space slightly, there are still 470 litres to play with back there and you can extend it by lowering the rear seats.
Up front, there are plenty of cubbies and storage areas to ensure that the cabin stays clutter-free, too.
