Five things you need to know about the Audi S5

Sporty and good looking. Discover the key features of the highly desirable Audi S5.
Five things you need to know about the Audi S5
With a hefty 336bhp and one of the most finely honed chassis in Audi’s history, the S5 is a sporty model with the driving finesse to match its classy good looks.
It has class-leading aerodynamics
The coupé is the sportiest looking of the S5 models, but it’s the five-door Sportback that’s actually the slipperiest. It has a drag co-efficient of just 0.25 making it one of the most aerodynamic cars on the road, adding further to its performance credentials.
It has an eight-speed gearbox
Previous versions of the S5 came with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission, but the current incarnation has a new eight-speed gearbox.
It’s a more conventional transmission than the old seven-speeder in some respects as it uses a traditional torque converter, but it’s perfectly suited to the S5’s prodigious power output and it changes up and down through the gears quickly and smoothly.
You can order it with trick suspension
The S5 comes as standard with quattro permanent all-wheel drive and S Sports Suspension but this can be upgraded to the electronically controlled and multi-adjustable S Sports Suspension with Damper Control that adds multiple setting for firmness, agility and roadholding, depending on whether you want touring comfort or press-on sharpness.
You can have up to 19 speakers
If you love your tunes then the Audi Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound system is a worthy and wonderful option, with a multi-dimensional surround sound that has 19 speakers in total and a maximum output of 755W.
Even the standard stereo is pretty good, with smartphone mirroring built-in and touchscreen tech, along with Audi’s digital cockpit display.
It's available in three body styles
The original S5 was launched as a coupé, but the model has evolved over the years to become a multiple body style offering.
The Coupé remains the core model, but there’s also a Cabriolet and the recently introduced S5 Sportback, which adds five-door practicality without losing anything in the way of style.
